Here are our favorites and recommendations:
Barnes: The exceptional accuracy and penetration of the Tipped TSX and LRX make an excellent big game bullet in the 338 Ultra Mag. Lead-free design is legal in California and all area where non-toxic bullet are required.
Hammer: We highly recommend the 236gr Hammer Hunter. This bullet provides exceptional accuracy and deadly terminal performance. Lead-free design is legal in California and all area where non-toxic bullet are required.
Hornady: ELD-X offers excellent terminal performance and accuracy, an especially good choice for long range work.
Norma: The Norma Oryx is a bonded bullet the offers deep penetration with excellent bullet upset and expansion. Excellent for African Plains Game!
Nosler: The Accubond and Partition provide great accuracy and weigh retention, great all-around hunting bullets
Muzzle velocities as follows:
- 200gr bullets – 3100 FPS
- 225gr bullets – 3000 FPS
- 250gr bullets – 2850 FPS
- 265gr bullets – 2800 FPS
- 275gr bullets – 2700 FPS
- 285gr bullets – 2600 FPS

I am very close to 70 now and have been reloading for close to 50-years. Have my own 200-yard range on my farm high in the NC Mountains. Even though I am retired, I am very busy with chores on 56-acres. Storm damage, general chores etc. Much higher storm damage this year from extra harsh Winter.
